This stool was designed with a focus on clean design, use, and material connections. Constructed using a butcher-blocked panel technique and reinforced with domino joinery, the piece balances strength with a minimal aesthetic. The natural wood grain enhances the simplicity of the form, allowing the simplicity of the design to take center stage.
The primary goal for this project was refining my skills on the table saw, working towards comfort in using this machine. The process challenged me to work with greater accuracy and efficiency, resulting in a well-proportioned, structurally sound stool. The experience strengthened my understanding of material behavior and joinery techniques.
The combination of cotton cord and gray duck fabric upholstery brings an element of comfort and subtle contrast to the design. The upholstery process required attention to detail to ensure the waterfall upholstery lined up with the side panel of the project. The interplay of rigid wood construction with soft fabric elements creates a balanced visual and tactile experience.
This project was an opportunity to refine both technical skills and design sensibilities. From wood preparation to final assembly, every step was a lesson in craftsmanship and material exploration. This stool represents a step forward in my journey as a woodworker, blending functionality with thoughtful construction.
