Project Overview: I created this multi-element wallpaper hand drawn, as my visual personal branding statement that I can use in different applications. Each element has a personal meaning that, collectively, defines what's important to me.
Each of the blue colors used in the design icons page are colors based out of the book "Nature's Palette: A Colour Reference System from the Natural World" by Patrick Baty. Dark blue is my Dads favorite color, and I've always associated my love for the color with him. The specific blue I chose is a slightly darker shade than one from a tropical bird.
The camel represents my time at a previous job that taught me communication skills with guests, and animal handling techniques. It was a part in my life that represents my appreciation for learning and understanding new skills.
Before I decided to become an Industrial designer, my goal was to become an Ecologist and work for the betterment of the environment researching wildlife and learning to understand the land. Before deciding Industrial design was a better fit, but the undercurrents of the environment are still an important part of my life.
The airplane represents my love of travel and exploration. Aviation has opened so many doors for people to better understand the world and each of our places in it. I always aim to keep this idea in my mind as I travel through life.
As simple as a coffee bean may seem, the bean itself is steeped in so much history. I aim to be like the coffee bean, deep and full of flavor, as in full of experiences and life, full of energy, and can be paired well with many things. Plus, I love coffee!
During my time in FFA, I had an SAE (Supervised Agricultural Experience) breeding a critically rare breed of poultry called the Barred Holland. Working with an animal whose history is entwined with America helped me to appreciate where everyone comes from and how each and every one of us has a place in this world.
I've been an equestrian my whole life. Riding horses has taught me many lessons, especially those on how to take constructive criticism, learn from others, and be humble. Every time I go out to ride I learn something more about myself.
Feathers are both delicate and strong. A single feather is beautiful to find on the ground, but together with more it allows birds to soar for long distances. The feather serves as a reminder to be strong individually and work hard in a team environment as well.
The horse has been a symbol of freedom for generations, and I've always been intrigued by how strong and powerful the horse is, but when ridden and trained, can perform beautiful movements. I aim to be like the horse, strong, but able to perform my best in all my endeavors.
Beautiful mountain ranges have always been a place of peace for me. I view the mountains as a place of relaxation, and having time to visit them to ski, hike, or camp is always a goal that helps me push myself to complete my goals.
Wichita has a unique skyline from the look of Century II to the Keeper of the Plains. But the Keeper of the Plains is a reminder of home. This sculptural piece by Blackbear Bosin is a reminder of home.
Going to college at K-State has introduced me to the beauty of the Tallgrass Prairie. It reminds me of the beauty in simplicity, and to take everything that is thrown my way in its season. There is always a time for growth, and always a time for rest. The Prairie does this well and shows the perfect balance of both.
Skiing has always been a favorite sport of mine. It gives me the opportunity to work out, be outdoors, and acts as a wonderful time for me to contemplate my work and projects.
My design logo, KSD or Kendall Schoenhals Design, I drew to follow the style of a western brand as an homage to my love of the west, and a way to tie in my love of agriculture. The sun serves as both a symbol for the rising and the setting of the sun. It's a reminder to let the sun set on things that need to be let go, and a reminder that the sun will always shine again.
